Another mystery

This notice went up on the door in the entry of our apartment buiding about a week ago. We have no clue what it is about, but whatever will happen, we do know that it will be on Wednesday, November 9th, in the morning. It also says that if you won't be home, you have to leave your keys with someone so that the yellow flyer people can get into your apartment and do whatever they intend to do.

At the bottom of the note is says that way back on 1/7/1970 (that's 35 years ago), they passed a law that said this had to be done twice a year. Funny, how they always quote the date of a law when they reference it... not like in the states where we name the purpose - "The Privacy Act" or the "Americans with Disabilities Act" or the "Patriot Act". We can at least venture a guess as to what the law is about, but not over here. They always reference a law by the date that it was implemented - and unless you have those dates memorized like your verb conjugations, you are kept in the dark.

I'm assuming that Maillet s.a. is the name of the company that has been contracted for this mystery activity... and RAMONAGE means "brushing". I reallly don't think they are coming to sweep my floors. The next best guess is that these people are chimney sweeps. Oh dear... if so, I wonder if the the "orange duct tape" guys will be back. When I was here only about a week, two guys showed up at my door and wanted to see the chimney in my kitchen. I showed it to them, then they asked me for a ladder to get up there for a closer inspection. They proceeded to put orange duct tape all around it. They came back a few weeks later to remove the duct tape - and use my ladder again, bien sur!

So, anyway... I will be home on Wednesday, November 9th, in the morning because I want to see for myself what will transpire, but more importantly, I don't know anyone to trust with my keys. I'll keep you posted.....
