what's up with the power?

We are still working on getting light fixtures. Jeff will only be here for another week so I felt a sense of urgency to get the light fixture project completed. So Saturday we went and bought a couple of more fixtures - in particular, the one for the entry hall. The entry hall fixture is an important one, I think, and so I wanted something really nice. I had my eyes on a really "french" looking chandelier with crystals hanging all over it. It was rather chic and there were only 2 of them in the store. When we went to purchase it the other day, only one was left, and it had some missing crystals. I studied it carefully to see how I could rearrange things to make it look as though it was designed that way. Finally, after a bit of haggling and a 10% discount, we took it home. I cleaned it up, worked on it and had it ready for Jeff to install.

Jeff took out the usual installation rigging... the coffee table with the ladder on top. He climbed up, installed the fixture and then he turned it on and ..... ta da.... darkness, total darkness... he knocked out power to the whole apartment.

OK so with no light, we all fumbled around and managed to find the breaker and thank goodness the pwer came back on. Maybe he hooked it up wrong. So he redid the hook-up and tried again. Ta da.... darkness again.

I hate when that happens. So tonight Paul came home early from work so we could get to the store before they closed. We carried in the fixture and in our best french, told them of the problem. It is one of my favorite stores and I would have been dissappointed if they would not have been willing to take the fixture back. Anyway, they will be mailing us a check. And we will have to be looking for yet another light fixture!
