he's b-a-c-k

One day last week, Jeff said that he would like to ride his bike to Paris. We laughed and told him that it was a stupid idea, it was too far, and he could never make it. So he said OK, he won't. But then he said he wanted to go to Paris. I thought nothing of it at the time. Kate and I went out for the afternoon only to return to an empty apartment. Jeff was gone, so were most of his clothes, his bags, but not his cell phone (he must have forgotten it). Kate said, "Oh, he went to Paris." I had not expected him to just up and leave, but he did. I worried the whole time because he didn't have a phone with him, and moms just do that. It's my job.

I started getting concerned on Friday after he had been gone nearly a week. I even checked his bank account to see how much longer his money would hold out! (He only had about 80 euros left) So on Saturday afternoon, the front door opened and in walked Jeff. He told us of his adventures in Paris, then his trip to Amsterdam, and then home. He found some Canadians at the hostel in Paris and kinda hung out with them for a while. He also met some French bankers who wanted to practice their English with him. And some guy wanted to "take some pictures of him" but the red flags went off in his head and he said NO. He stayed in 2 different hostels in Paris then took the train to Amsterdam but could not find a place to stay for the night so he stayed up and just walked around the city. He walked in the red-light district for entertainment and said that he was offered drugs repeatedly.

So glad to have him back home. He hasn't cut his hair all summer and Kate was trying to help him keep it out of his eyes.
