To Geneva

We had to take a trip to Geneva to get our visas. We thought that Paul would be getting his work visa and I would be getting the "spouse-of-worker" visa, but no. We only got a 3-month tourist visa and will have to get the other kind in three more months. Anyway.... it was a nice trip to the French Embassy in Geneva. We boarded the train near our apartment early in the morning and had a nice leisurely trip over the Alps and to the city. Our apointment was at 10:30 and the instruction sheet we were given said to "ring a bell at a small side door" and so we found a side door and rang the bell and we were told that it was the 'employee entrance'. Those stupid Americans again! We then watched carefully as everyone else stood at the front door (which was locked) and then every now and then one person would press a buzzer, explain their situation, then the door would magically open and they would enter. We really didn't figure out why or how things worked the way they did, so we just followed someone else in and quickly got reprimanded for doing so. Stupid Americans. Anyway, we finally got in to see the Mrs. somebody that was supposed to help us and got our visas.

Then we had the rest of the day to play. We went to Carouge, an area where there are lots of shops for craftspeople. For example, there was a sweater shop where they actually knitted the sweaters there. We passed an antique repair shop and I took a picture - can't tell if it reminded me of Uncle Al's or Mikes!
